Spring is in full swing, and you know what that means. It’s time to clean your home. No one enjoys spring cleaning, but it’s a necessary evil. Declutter First

You can’t clean while your home is still cluttered. You’ll end up shoving things aside or just neglecting to clean underneath them! This is why decluttering has to come first.

Declutter in segments. Start with a single corner of a single room and move onto the next piece when you’re done.

It’s best to have multiple boxes or bags for this. Have one bag for “keep” items, one for “donate” items, one for “trash” items, and one for “fix or reuse” items. It’s also helpful to have a “wrong room” box so you don’t have to leave your space.

Remember, get rid of anything that doesn’t have a place.

Countertops and Tables

When it comes to cleaning, start with surfaces. Not only do they get touched every day, but you may wipe off crumbs and other debris that end up on the floor.

You don’t have to disinfect after every cleaning session, but because spring cleaning is a big event, it’s best to take this opportunity to get everything disinfected. Luckily, the CDC has helpful guides that you can use at home!

Clean Those Floors

After your surfaces are clean, move to the floors.

Vacuum or sweep to get rid of any debris. If you have pets or children, you may want to vacuum each area twice to make sure that you get rid of all residual grime.

Then it’s time to deep-clean. Use a mop anywhere that you have hard floors (though be cautious with hardwood). Make sure to start with the furthest point from the door so you don’t have to walk over your hard work.

When it comes to carpets, it might be worthwhile to invest in (or rent) a steam cleaner. This gets deep into the fibers of the carpet. You’ll be shocked at how different clean carpet looks from your dirty carpet.

Cover Large Projects

This is the perfect time to deal with the projects that you’ve been putting off all year.

Many of these projects are in the kitchen. Start by cleaning the refrigerator. Take everything out and wipe down all of the shelves. Throw away anything that you can’t remember putting in, and check all of the labels for expiration dates.

Next, move to the pantry and do the same thing. It’s so nice to have a kitchen that’s no longer crowded with unnecessary or unusable things!

This is also the perfect time to clean up your closets. Do you have clothes you never wear? Messes from hiding clutter? It’s time to get to work.
